Selected Recent Accomplishments…

2009 - The challenge:   Homologate an alternatively fueled vehicle for the U.S. market.

Results: In a matter of weeks, Pilot Systems assembled and managed a team of technical consultants and suppliers to assist the manufacturer in the design and implementation of their vehicle to meet U.S. safety regulations.  This included Body Structures, FMVSS and IIHS compliance testing and materials testing.

2009 – The challenge: Take an OEM production certified engine and integrate it into a Series Hybrid Bus application that could then be certified to CARB regulations.

Results: Pilot Systems assembled a technical team that included some of the best Hybrid and Calibration experts in the industry.  Pilot Systems then worked in concert with the OEM and Bus Company to engineer, integrate, and calibrate the OEM’s engine into the Series Hybrid Application.  We then worked with the Bus Manufacturer and CARB to certify the application.

2008 - The Challenge: Resolve a Hydrogen Gas leak on a fleet of vehicles under test across North America.

Results: Utilizing Design of Experiments, Pilot Systems International worked with the OEM, the OEM suppliers, and Service Centers across North America to identify the root cause failure of the injector.  This involved instrumenting vehicles, developing specialized test equipment to be used by the fleet managers, and doing component level testing of injectors.

These actions led to significant product improvement institutionalized throughout this OEM’s suppliers as well as the robustness of the OEM’s hydrogen powertrain system.

2008 The Challenge: In the midst of one of the most volatile periods of time in the Automotive Industry, develop a Powertrain Strategy for 2015 and beyond for a major OEM.

Results: Utilizing proprietary technologies and methods facilitated by one of North America’s leading Strategic Planning experts, Pilot Systems worked with the OEM to validate their current Powertrain line up and identify a technology road map going forward.  This strategy is currently being executed by the OEM.

2007 The Challenge: The design of a Next Generation Throttle Body was six months behind, understaffed, and had significant design issues.

Results: Pilot Systems brought together a Team consisting of an expert Component Designer (30 years in the industry), a CAE supplier, and material science engineers.  The project was completed in 5 months and regained all lost timing.  Additionally, several new technologies and materials were utilized in the Throttle Body, leading to a patent being secured by the Tier One supplier.
